Captains in Euro 2020 Fantasy are slightly different than in FPL.
In Euros fantasy you can change captain multiple times during a matchday. A matchday lasts several days and at the end of each day you have a substitution window which closes as the first game of the next day kicks off. During this window, you can make subs and change your captain.
This means you have multiple chances throughout the matchday to choose a captain with a good score.
If I change captain will my current captain lose his points?
Yes. If you change your captain during a matchday, your current captain will lose his double points. You can only score double points on the player that is captain when the matchday ends.
For example, if you captained Kane in matchday 1, you’d have scored 4 points (2×2 points). If you then thought Ronaldo would do better in the match the day after, you can change your captain to Ronaldo in the substitution window. Kane will then be deducted his double points and will score the normal amount of points (2). Ronaldo then went on to score 2 goals, giving him a total of 10 points or 20 if you chose him captain.
Who are the best players to captain on Euro 2020 Fantasy?
Because of the rules described above, you should always choose your captain for a player playing on day 1. If they don’t get as many points as you would like you can then change to a player playing on day 2 and so on. So even if you had a player in mind that you want to captain, and say they played on day 3, you should captain a player from day 1. Then at the end of the day, you can choose whether to stick with him or change.
For example, in matchday 1, the game were spread across 5 days and I chose a captain for every day. I had Kane in mind as the player I wanted to captain but I chose other captains along the way. Day 1 I went for Berardi who scored 6 points. I thought I could get better than that so on day 2 decided to captain Bale. Bale only scored 2 points so I really had no choice but to captain Kane on day 3, which I did. Kane ended up only scoring 2 points. I then changed captain again to Wijnaldum for the next day, day 4. Wijnaldum scored 7 points (which I should have kept) but I then took a risk and captained Jota on day 5 who only ended up scoring 3 points.
So in the end, if I would have stuck with Kane as captain, I would have only scored 2 additional points, but the fact I could change captain every day, gave me the opportunities to score much bigger.
Take more risks
As described in my example above, this captaincy rule is much more forgiving, so you can now take more risks with your captain decisions that on FPL. It’s worth taking a punt on differentials earlier on in the matchday, especially if you have a premium, reliable player playing later on in the matchday.
