Over the next few days, I will be going through the process of picking your Euros Fantasy Team followed by some tips and recommendations as I normally do for FPL.
Here I will be going through some of the notable rules that you’ll need to know before picking your team. This is because although Euros Fantasy is similar, it’s not identical to FPL.
So what’s different?
Terminology
Just to clear a key piece of terminology up before we get going, as it could cause confusion.
In Euro 2020 fantasy, a ‘matchday’ is the equivalent of a gameweek in FPL. That meaning your team is locked in for a matchday, once it starts. However, although it is named match ‘day’ the matchdays go on for several days, until all the teams have played their match.
For example, matchday 1 is from 10th June until 14th June.
Rules
Scoring
Scoring is very similar to FPL with just a few minor differences:
- -1 for conceding a penalty
- +2 for winning a penalty
- +1 for a goal from outside the box
Everything else is pretty much the same.
Captain
The main difference with captains is that you can change your captain during a matchday
However, once you change your captain the player you originally had will no longer gain double points for the matchday.
The way I recommend to use this feature to your advantage is choosing a captain who is playing in game 1, then if he blanks, or you think a player from game day 2,3 etc will score more points, you can change it to them.
For example, if you captained Kane who played on day 1 and he blanked, you can change it to another player in day 2.
Substitutions
Substitutions work similarly to the captain as explained above.
You can make up to 4 substitutions between days in a matchday. However, any player you substitute out will score 0 points for that matchday.
Automatic substitutions still apply as normal. So if any of your players don’t play, they will be automatically substituted out for a playing player on your bench.
Using the new rules to your advantage
So now they key changes have been explained, you can use these to benefit your team.
Starting with the points scoring, players that win penalties, such as tricky wingers (Ronaldo, Sterling) are more valuable, as well as players who shoot from range that are capable of scoring from outside the area.
With the captain rule, I recommend always choosing a player from the first day of matches as your captain, then you can decide whether you want to change each day.
For you bench, I recommend choosing players that are nailed starters. There will be lots of rotation, as there always is with international tournaments, so choose your premiums wisely because you’ll need all of your players.
